Musical Variety at Spring Concert

DMAE’s annual spring music concert was held on May 18, 2016, in the Dizzy Gillespie  Auditorium in the King Hall building. Prepared by music teacher Sandra Meltzer and her music students, all family and friends were invited to celebrate musical achievements from the year.

Two weeks preceding the concert, students remained after school and rehearsed to perfect their upcoming performance.

“I thought we did really well,” soloist and sophomore Deirdre Riggsbee said. “It was frustrating at first because nobody was learning their parts, but in the end, everything came together.”

The concert included performances of Jazz Band, String and Guitar ensembles, and Chorus.

Tickets were sold for $5. Proceeds contributed to the funds for next year’s trips.

“If a student sells two tickets, it goes into their individual accounts. I run accounts for their trips and such,” Ms. Meltzer said.

Past music trips have included Broadway shows and a day in Dorney Park. Next year, however, Ms. Meltzer wishes to take her students on an overnight trip.

“I’d like to take a trip to Washington, D.C. During the inauguration, there’s a music festival,” Ms. Meltzer said. “It would be nice to take the students there.”

The spring concert is the second half of DMAE’s biannual music celebration. Despite the concert’s demands for time and practice, the end results was a rewarding performance.
