DMAE Music at Teen Arts

On May 18, 2018, students from artistic programs at DMAE went on a trip to Bergen Community College for the annual Teen Arts Festival. Students from vocal groups and chorus participated in a showcase of their talents. At Teen Arts, groups that participate get help on how to hone their craft and improve from professionals in the field.

“Playing there and having judges critique me and my playing helped me to realize things I need to work on and how to work on them,” junior Jaquan Pollard said.

DMAE Music students showcased their vocal and musical abilities on stage. Vocal Synergy, Chorus, and Jazz Band performed songs from all genres, varying from traditional spiritual “Elijah Rock” to Billy Joel classic “And So It goes” to even the The Family Guy theme song, courtesy of the Jazz Band.

“Teen Arts was fun,” junior Shaina Lacap said. “I got to reconnect with some of my old friends and watch performances from other schools in both dance and theatre.”

Teen Arts is a time for all students who are interested in the arts to meet a community of other kids from Bergen County to share their talents and make new friends in art. The community of like minded creatives make it the perfect place to grow as both an artist and a person.

“It’s always a good place to hone your artistic skills with people who are more than happy to help,” said a cappella singer senior Kyle Castillo.  “You always leave Teen Arts knowing a bit more than you did before.”
