Science Meets Nature on Environmental Science Trip
On May 29, 2018, DMAE students in Environmental Science went on a trip to Flat Rock Brook in Englewood, NJ. Students participated in interactive team building exercises such as “Around the World” and “Never Have I Ever.” Some students thoroughly enjoyed the day’s activities not only from an educational standpoint, but also for the fun experience they provided.
“I enjoyed myself,” junior Rishika Singh said. “It was a fun time with friends surrounded by nature.”
Students walked on different level trails at Flat Rock with a tour guides who taught them about the geographic and environmental history of Englewood including how it was once a quarry for crushed rock. They also learned about animal awareness, poison ivy, hiking dos and don’ts, and different types of rocks.
“It was a great way for students to spend time outside and learn about the environmental history of their hometown,” trip organizer Michelle Escobedo explained.
Flat Rock Brook has been a resource for Englewood students to learn more about nature, the environment, and the science behind it for many years.
“It was a fun, yet educational experience that I enjoyed and would want to do again,” junior Shaina Lacap said.
