NHS and Other Societies Induct for 2021-2022

The National Honor Society of DMAE held its Induction Ceremony on June 7, 2021, to recognize new members joining the organization. The event was held on Zoom during which 37 juniors and sophomores were inducted along with the newly elected slate of officers. The DMAE  National Honors Society Delta Mu Sigma Chapter is advised by Dorothy McClelland.

“While this year was a challenge due to the pandemic, I am proud of the accomplishments of our chapter members,” Ms. McClelland said. “I was especially impressed with the College Application session that they held for underclassmen. Students who attended said it was very helpful for them as they embark on the process of choosing and applying to colleges,” she added.

Officers served as hosts of the event. President Jeffrey Hong was master of ceremonies, Vice President Christopher Butcher gave the flag salute, Historian Kiana Ong gave a history of the chapter. Principal Suro gave remarks and Superintendent Bolandi provided a Keynote Address.

After the installment of new officers, Dimple Kangriwala, Christopher Lee and Kiana Ong read the tenets of the four basic principles for membership: Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. At the end, new inductees read the official Pledge based on the principles.

Though students did not light candles at home, they did virtually “come on stage” to receive certificates and be recognized and their pictures were shown in a slideshow.

“I wish our students well in the future and have high hopes that they will make a significant impact on the world!” Ms. McClelland noted.

Other subject-specific induction ceremonies took place in June, including the induction of new members for the National English Honors Society (NEHS). Students in 10th and 11th grade with a GPA of 3.5 or higher were invited to apply to become members of NEHS last March and those selected were inducted. Daniel Markert hosted this ceremony as the adviser and welcomed new inductees. He also thanked the administration, teachers and the guidance department for helping the students.
