Big North-American Championship Meets Victory
On Monday, Jan. 9th, 2023, the Dwight Morrow indoor track team led by Coach Lisa Oden, attended the Big North-American Championship Meet at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, New York, which comprises every school in the Big North Conference Dwight Morrow athletes came home accomplished with medals in multiple events.
Junior Jordan Moorer received the 3rd place medal in the shot put event, as well as junior Stan Davis coming in close in 4th. The 400 meters event was dominated by Demi Trystin Mack and Elijiah Martin placing 2nd as well. Sophomore Saundrae Palmer Jr. went above expectations after placing 2nd in the 55 meters and 200 meters events, and victorious after placing 1st in long jump.
“I am very happy to win the Big Northern Championship. Going into the competition I was very confident in my abilities and I knew I could do something big. My coaches and I have been working very hard to achieve this, and I am very excited to see what the future holds,” Saundrae said.
Besidesindividual competitions, the team also met success in relay races as well. Jordan Moorer, Elijah Martin, Aaron Tinsley, and Saundrae Palmer Jr. won 2nd place in the 4 by 400 meter relay alongside Brandon Cooper, Adam Abdul, Aaron Tinsley, and Yeongyu Lee placing 3rd in the 4 by 800 meter relay.
“We won so many medals in that race, it was a great day, and I want to shout out a special thanks to our coaches, coach Eps, coach Jerome, and especially coach Oden since she leads the long distance team. There’s always room to improve and I hope that our team can grow and win sweep up medals in future races too,” junior Yeongyu Lee stated.
The team is currently preparing for future meets such as the Varsity Novice Meet at the Teaneck Armory on Wednesday, January 18th as well as the Varsity Shot Put Meet versing Bergenfield on Saturday, January 21st.
